Hubert John Burke, Lance-Corporal, son of Michael Burke jnr and Edythe Ridley, of Upper Moutere, grandson of Michael and Maria Burke. Served in France with the 2nd Battalion, Canterbury Regiment. In battle at Armentiere on 29 May 1916 he suffered leg injuries from which he died two days later, aged 23. Buried in the Bailleul Communal Cemetery.
